Can you change a lock on a period door near the Minster without damaging it?+
Yes, that's exactly the sort of door I take care with. I match the lock to the door, keep the original ironmongery where I can, and fit British Standard locks that pass insurance without spoiling the look of a period property.
My uPVC door on the Merley estate won't lock, do I need a new door?+
Almost never. Nine times out of ten it's the gearbox or the cylinder, both of which I carry and can change the same visit. A new door is the last thing I'll suggest.
I've just bought a place in Colehill, should I change the locks?+
I'd recommend it. You don't know how many keys are out there or who's held them, so a fresh set of British Standard locks the day you move in is cheap peace of mind.

I'm Andy, and I cover Wimborne and the BH21 postcode from my base over in Poole, the Minster town itself, out to leafy Colehill, Pamphill and Stapehill, and the newer side at Merley and Canford Bottom. You get me or one of my own engineers, never an agency stranger.
Wimborne is a proper Georgian market town and the housing shows it. Around the Minster and the narrow streets like King Street you've got period and half-timbered properties, conservation streets, and a lot of old timber doors running mortice and rim locks that want a careful hand, not a drill. Push out to Merley and Canford Bottom and it's modern estate housing on uPVC and composite doors with multipoint locks, and up at Colehill it's larger detached homes where I fit more smart locks and high-security cylinders. Different doors, different parts, and I carry for all of it.

A recent Wimborne call-out
I had a call from a customer in Wimborne who'd locked themselves out of an older property near the town centre, the only key shut inside. As always, the first thing I did was a quick survey of the place to see if there was an open window or another way in that had been overlooked, because I'll always go for the least disruptive and most cost-effective route first.
There was no easy way in, and on a period door like this one you can't just force it without doing real damage. I worked the lock and got the door open with no damage to it at all, then made sure it was locking properly before I left. The customer was back inside within 30 minutes of my arrival. Another happy customer, and on to the next one.
