Common questions
My door won't lock unless I lift the handle really hard, what's wrong?+
The door has usually dropped slightly so the locking points are fighting the keeps. I adjust and realign it so it locks with a normal lift, no force.
Can you repair the door or do I need a new one?+
Almost always a repair. Nine times out of ten it's a mechanism or alignment fault I can put right the same visit, far cheaper than a replacement door.
My door has swollen and sticks, can you fix that?+
Yes. That's usually an ease and adjust, a hinge sort-out or a realign so it shuts and locks cleanly again.
Will you have the parts with you?+
I carry the common gearboxes, cylinders, hinges and parts in the van, so most door repairs are sorted on the first visit.

What usually goes wrong with a door
A door that won't lock, won't shut or fights you every time is rarely beyond saving. Most of the time it's a fault in the mechanism or the way the door sits in the frame, not the door itself. The common ones I see are a failed multipoint gearbox, a door that's dropped on its hinges so the lock won't catch, worn hinges, a swollen or sticking door, or a latch and strike plate that no longer line up.
How I fix it
I diagnose the actual fault first and show you what's wrong before I quote, so you're not paying for guesswork. Most repairs are an adjustment, a realign, a new gearbox or cylinder, or a hinge and strike-plate sort-out, and I carry the common parts in the van so it's usually done the same visit. A new door is the last thing I'll suggest, and only if a door is genuinely past saving.
