Floppy handle, door dropped on its hinges, gearbox seized, key won't turn? I see these uPVC faults every day and almost always fix them for far less than a new door. I carry the gearboxes and parts in the van, so most jobs are sorted the first visit. I cover Poole, Bournemouth and the wider Dorset area, usually with you in 15 to 30 minutes. No call-out fee.

Common questions
My uPVC handle has gone floppy, is the door ruined?+
No. A floppy or spinning handle is the classic sign of a failed gearbox, which I change without touching the rest of the door. Same visit in most cases.
The door won't lock unless I lift the handle really hard, why?+
The door has usually dropped slightly so the locking hooks are fighting the keeps. I adjust and realign it so it locks with a normal lift, no force.
Can you make my uPVC door more secure against break-ins?+
Yes. Swapping the cylinder for a British Standard TS007 three-star anti-snap one is the single best upgrade, it stops the snap attack that's the most common way uPVC doors get beaten.
Do I need a new door or just a repair?+
Almost always a repair. A new door is the last resort, and I'll tell you straight if a door is genuinely past it rather than fitting a part that won't hold.
Need me now?
Give me a ring. It’s the quickest way to get to you, usually 15 to 30 minutes, any time of day. Can’t talk? Leave your number and I’ll call you straight back. No call-out fee either way.

What actually goes wrong with uPVC doors
A uPVC door isn't locked by the cylinder you put the key in, it's locked by a long multipoint mechanism running up the edge of the door, hooks and rollers that throw when you lift the handle. Two things fail most:
- The gearbox, the centre case the handle drives. When the handle goes floppy or spins with no resistance, that's almost always the gearbox. The door still opens, it just won't lock.
- The cylinder, the bit the key goes in. If the key won't turn, sticks, or you're worried about snap attacks, that's the cylinder, and it's a quick, cheap swap for a British Standard anti-snap one.
The other common one is the door having dropped over time so the hooks no longer line up with the keeps. That's an adjustment, a hinge tweak and a realign, not a new door. I carry the common gearboxes, cylinders and parts so most of this is sorted the same visit.
What it costs
No call-out fee. I tell you the price before I start, and you pay me when it's working and you're happy. A gearbox or cylinder is a fraction of the cost of a replacement door, and I'll always tell you honestly if a door genuinely is beyond saving rather than selling you a part that won't last.
