Common questions
I've locked myself out, will you damage my door to get me in?+
Almost never. Non-destructive entry is the normal way I open a locked door. If a lock has genuinely failed and has to be drilled I'll tell you first and I'll have a replacement with me.
My key snapped off in the lock, can you still get me in?+
Yes. I'll extract the broken part, get you in, and either repair or replace the cylinder so it doesn't happen again. Don't try to dig it out yourself, that usually pushes it in deeper.
It's the middle of the night, do you charge more?+
I'm on call 24/7. Any out-of-hours rate is agreed before I start, there's no call-out fee, and the price you're quoted is the price you pay.
I'm locked out of a flat with a communal door, can you help?+
Yes. Converted houses and blocks often have older or mixed locks, which is exactly what non-destructive entry handles best, and it protects the shared door and frame that forcing it would wreck.

Getting you in without wrecking the door
The whole point of calling a proper locksmith instead of forcing it is that you keep your door. Nine times out of ten I open it without any damage at all. Depending on the lock that means slipping the latch, picking or bypassing the cylinder, or working the mechanism until it gives. People reach for a screwdriver, a card or their shoulder and turn a two minute job into a new door and frame. A Yale-type night latch that's just pulled shut behind you is one of the quickest things I open, so if that's all it is, ring me before you try anything.
Drilling a lock is a genuine last resort, only when a lock has failed inside and there's no other way, and even then I carry replacement cylinders and locks on the van so you're left properly secure, not boarded up.
